Time Zones of the Dominican Republic

Travelers from the northeastern United States will revel in the fact that heading south through a simple one hour time difference can sometimes result in a great difference in climate. Through much of the year though, time in the Dominican Republic matches that of that in the eastern United States.

The Dominican Republic, along with a large portion of the Caribbean is on Atlantic Standard Time. During daylight savings time, Atlantic Standard Time matches that of Eastern Standard Time. For the rest of the year, the Dominican Republic is one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time. The time stays four hours behind Greenwich Mean Time in London and five to six hours behind the time in most of Europe.

As a result of these small differences, travelers from the United States will have no trouble adapting to time in the Dominican Republic. Travelers from Europe and abroad, however, may have to make slight adjustments to compensate for the jet lag.
